I've been indulging in napping when Ava goes down for her nap in the afternoon. Some days, she would only sleep an hour and then wake up so I started putting her in bed with me so I could sleep longer.
So she got caught a little cold this week and has had a hard time breathing through her nose (can't breathe through her mouth very well because she loves her binky --- another issue I'm not going to deal with yet). It turns out she did not want to sleep in her crib. I took pitty on her because I'm sure it's hard trying to sleep flat with a runny nose and such. So, into "Mommy's bed" she went. I could prop her up with pillows or on my arm so she could breathe. A few days of doing this and Ava wants nothing to do with her crib! AHH! I wouldn't mind her in my bed as much if I was ready to go to bed at 8:00 or if she didn't wake up in the morning when Chris turns the shower on.
My next goal was to get her back in her bed now that she is feeling better. After lots of tears, she's finally back in her bed. My observations: Crying it out does not work. I can't handle it and it's not good to cry when you're already suffering from a drippy nose...it becomes waterfall or snotterfall...okay I know that's gross. I even laid on the floor until she fell asleep in her bed one night. It didn't work the next night.
Finally, I tried reasoning with her...telling her "no crying" "you're okay" "you're tired" "you have to sleep in Ava's bed"...etc. It finally worked last night. I asked her to be nice and lay down (after the millionth time) and she did. I'm hoping it will last and that we won't have to start all over again.
The funny thing is that she gets the joke and it's on me. The last couple of days when she has taken a nap or slept through the night in her crib I'll say, "Good job sleeping in Ava's bed!!" Then, she'll smile and say, "Mommy's bed???" NO MOMMY'S BED!

Hehe Kids can be a handful sometimes.
Nice blog.
Hope the sleeping thing gets better soon. Sickness always throws everything off.
i think things will improve when the new baby comes...something about a new baby makes your old baby seem so grown up! milk the role of "big sister!"
